Job Title: Assistant Olive Farm Manager – Olive Oil Production

Woolloomooloo is a privately owned boutique olive farm dedicated to producing premium-quality olive oil.  Based at Gulgong, NSW with a 100-acre olive grove and processing plant on site, we employ a scientific and mechanical approach to oliviculture, integrating the latest agricultural technologies and sustainable farming methods to enhance efficiency and productivity.

Role Overview

We are seeking an Olive Farm Assistant Manager to support our Farm Manager with a view to succeed them in a couple of years.  The successful candidate will oversee olive oil production, focusing on best-practice oliviculture techniques, grove management, and mechanised harvesting. The ideal candidate will have a strong educational background in agricultural science, horticulture, or a related field, combined with practical experience in farm operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Grove Management – Oversee daily operations in the olive grove, including planting, pruning, irrigation, soil health management, and pest control.
  • Harvest Coordination – Assist in planning and executing olive harvesting, ensuring optimal timing for quality oil production.
  • Oil Production Support – Collaborate with processing teams to ensure a smooth transition from harvest to oil extraction, maintaining quality and efficiency.
  • Scientific & Data-Driven Approach – Apply research-based methodologies in grove management, monitoring tree health, soil conditions, and yield optimization.
  • Machinery & Equipment – Operate and maintain farm machinery, including harvesters, sprayers, and irrigation systems.
  • Sustainability & Compliance – Ensure all farming activities adhere to environmental regulations, sustainability goals, and industry best practices.
  • Team Supervision & Training – Support and train farm staff in best oliviculture practices and safe equipment operation.
  • Record Keeping & Reporting – Maintain accurate records of farm operations, including yield data, input usage, and maintenance logs.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: A degree or diploma in Agricultural Science, Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field is required.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in olive farming, horticulture, or a similar agricultural setting.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with irrigation systems, pest and disease management, and mechanical harvesting equipment.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret soil, plant, and weather data to make informed farming decisions.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Experience with farm machinery operation and maintenance is highly desirable.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills.
  • Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license (with the ability to operate farm vehicles and machinery).
