The Queensland Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry is to include olive groves in its periodical wine map.

The large, hard copy Queensland road map, designed and produced by Hema Maps, is available at winery cellar doors throughout Queensland.

For the first time, olive and cheese makers/sellers are to be included on this very detailed Queensland map and the Department wants to source olivegrowers in Queensland who fulfill the following criteria:

• business must be a registered (with ABN) and licensed Queensland food manufacturer with current food hygiene certification
• business must be a licensed food premises/food retail outlet
• business must be reasonably easily accessible to all visitors (including coach groups and other members of the public) with clear road/ premise signage and must offer safe offroad parking
• visitor area (both indoor and outdoor) must be pleasant and welcoming and be able to attract and accommodate all manner of visitors (e.g. wheelchair access, restroom facilities, eftpos facilities)
• shopfront area must be open for regular business
• products must be value-added – not just primary produce
• a good range/quantity of product must be available for purchase
• businesses that offer an ‘experience’ (e.g. watching cheese being made or a tour of a winery) will be well regarded.
