Olives SA is holding a workshop on how to sign up for and comply with the new Industry Code of Practice (COP). This free workshop will be held from 3.00 pm to 5.30 pm on Wednesday 15th April 2009, at the Plant Research Centre Lecture Theatre, Gate 2B, Hartley Grove, Urrbrae.
Olives SA president Lisa Rowntree said that the COP is a key strategy underpinning the
industry goal of clearly differentiating high quality Australian olive product from those of
other countries.
“It is important for the whole industry that we have as many growers signed up and complying with the COP as possible,” she said.
“At the workshop John Forrest, the Australian Olive Association Industry Development
Officer will be explaining why we need the COP, who the COP benefits and how to fill in the forms and it will be possible for participants to sign-up on the spot.”
Rowntree said that if any of the following points apply to industry participants, then
they need to attend this workshop:
• I want to see the industry have an enforceable Code of Practice,
• I want to see Trade Standards developed for the olive industry,
• I produce olive oil and want to be part of the Code of Practice,
• I’m not sure how to complete the forms – I need guidance,
• I’m not sure how much this will cost and want to know more,
• I need to know how onerous this will be for my business,
• I’m excited to hear what the Industry’s plans are to promote ‘Australian Extra Virgin’.
