The 2010 Royal Queensland Food & Wine Show brings you an exciting new direction for this year’s Olive Oil Show, to be held from 12-13 July at the RNA Showgrounds.

The 2010 Olive Oil Show features an industry-leading judging process, table olives in competition for the first time, and for the olive-loving public a celebrity Ambassador to conduct a unique Olive Oil tasting tutorial – a gastronomic round table – that will enlighten and inspire.

Judged along Australian Olive Association competition guidelines, product classes in the Olive Oil Show include single estate grown extra virgin olive oils, separated by production volume; with new classes for flavoured/infused oil, and green, black and spiced/flavoured table olives.

Alongside one of the leading figures in the Australian olive industry, Mrs. Margi Kirkby, as Chief Judge, the 2010 RQFWS Olive Oil Show is proud to have Nino Zoccali as Guest Judge and the first Olive Oil Ambassador. Nino has been a member of the Australian Olive Association’s National Olive Oil Show Judging Panel for five years from 2004 to 2009 and has spent time at the prestigious Mastri Oleari (Olive Oil Masters Guild) in Milan.

Nino said recently “What underpins the great food available in Australia is the amazing produce available here and olive oil is an extremely relevant example in this respect with Australia, in the main, producing extremely high quality extra virgin olive oil”.

Margi Kirkby is one of Australia’s most experienced olive oil tasters and judges, specialising in blending, marketing and educating about olive oil for the industry in general, while managing her own brand Gwydir Grove.

She feels that “as a producer, I am a strong believer in showing olive oil at these national shows as it is an indicator of your level of competence in the industry and as the shows are all judged on the same criteria it proves to be a bench mark in the industry. As a consumer, an oil with a medal or write up is a guide for purchasing.”

Tickets are available to an indulgent tasting tutorial to be held after the final day of judging at the Olive Oil Show on 13 July 2010, where Nino and Margi will guide your taste buds through a winning selection of the single estate grown extra virgin olive oils, and teach you about the production and assessment of premium olive oil from tree to bottle.

The development of the Olive Oil Show was underpinned by a 12-month review of the judging rigor in all competitions to maintain the utmost equity and integrity in the award process. The RNA built on their core of nationally recognised judges, recruiting experts from around Australia to ensure the delivery of superior judging processes and standards, including the renowned culinary judge, broadcaster, writer and educator Russell Smith as Chairman of Judges for Food Competitions.

So if you’re an olive and/or olive oil producer with a passion for excellence, the Olive Oil Show will allow you to put your produce and processes to the definitive test, and become part of a powerful new brand in the national food and beverage industry.

Entrants are not only be able to secure valuable feedback and opinion from some of the best and most respected experts in their industry, but also showcase products to both their peers and customers.

Entries that attract the required points earn the right to display the gold, silver, bronze or trophy RQFWS Medals. Featuring consistent design and status across all products and classes, they offer producers the recognition they deserve, and consumers the single most authentic and comprehensive guarantee of quality on the Australian market today.

This year Trophies will be awarded to the Best Oil and Olive in Show, and the best Queensland Oil and Olive in Show.
