The Australian olive industry is saddened at the passing of Dr Michael Burr on August 21. Dr Burr was an important and active member of the industry over several decades, involved in many facets of organisation, research and quality achievements. He was also one of the industry’s first growers, planting a grove in the Beetaloo Valley in SA’s Mid North region in 1976, and was a founding member of both the Australian Olive Association and Olives South Australia Inc. He was awarded the Order of Australia AM, in part for his contributions to research and development in the Australian Olive Industry.
His funeral will be at Centennial Park, Adelaide on Tuesday, 27 August at 1.30pm.
