The Department of Agriculture has been notified by the European Commission of an audit of Australia’s organic export system, being conducted from 16 June-27 June 2014. The audit is to verify systems to control organic production and labelling of organic products in accordance with EU regulations, in particular the system for plant and plant products currently exported to the EU under an equivalence arrangement. EC auditors intend to visit Australian organic operations which currently export organic plant based foods to the EU. The department and approved certifying bodies are currently working through the details of the audit, including completion of a pre-audit questionnaire and submission of a suitable itinerary.
