ONZ members are now receiving an extra benefit from Certification, with the results also including each oil’s polyphenol content. Polyphenols are nature’s antioxidants and are a major source of EVOO’s much-lauded health benefits, so having proof of polyphenol content is not only a marker of the quality of your oil but also a great marketing tool. With the competition period currently in full swing, it’s handy to note that polyphenol content also gives a good indication as to EVOO style (mild – polyphenols = 150mg/kg; medium - polyphenols of 150-300mg/kg; intense - polyphenols >/= 300mg/kg) and is therefore a good indicator of the appropriate entry category for your oil. ONZ Certification documents are available for downloading from the Olives NZ website here.
