The period for return of 2015 Grove Census Harvest Report forms has now ended and ONZ EO Gayle Sheridan has been hard at work collating the information. A snapshot of the cropping patterns and issues experienced across the country, the report provides invaluable information aimed at seeing growers become more viable and profitable. The 2015 report was completed by slightly more than half of grove members, with some key points emerging. Among them are:
• Significant variation in crops harvested within all regions, comparing lowest and highest crop loads;
• Kapiti and Nelson showed an average harvest of almost 10kg per tree, while Hawke’s Bay produced the best average harvest at 13.98kg per tree. All other regions produced an average of less than 10kg, and some significantly less.
We’ll take a comprehensive look at the report and what the results show in the March edition of Olivegrower & Processor.
