We’re sending warm wishes to our NZ grower readers, who are in the midst of ongoing severe winter weather. Harvest is still underway in some areas and frosts are a very real threat – particularly with the Metservice forecast of freezing levels down as low as 100m across the south island yesterday. ONZ EO Gayle Sheridan said comparatively poor crops have been exacerbated by low yields this year, with NZ growers experiencing the same lack of ripening reported by many Australian growers. Advice to NZ EVOO lovers is to buy up early, as there may not be too much local product around this year.
Find out all about the 2017 harvest across New Zealand in the annual Harvest Report in the September edition of Olivegrower & Processor. And if you’re not already a subscriber, you can do so here.
