The New Zealand olive harvest is well and truly in full swing, and it’s generally looking like a good one. Olive NZ executive officer Gayle Sheridan has had reports of yields as high as 23% in some regions, with an average of 16-18%, and “superb” tasting oils. Looks like there’ll be some stiff competitive for this year’s NZ EVOO Awards! On the downside, anthracnose has once again been an issue for some growers, a reminder of the need for preventative grove maintenance. Look for a round-up of the harvest across the country in the Harvest Update feature in the June edition of Olivegrower & Processor.
