The ONZ 2016 Harvest Data Report has now been compiled, thanks to responses from 67% of members who contributed their figures. All participants should have received a copy of the 2016 report, along with an updated copy of their own grove database record. EO Gayle Sheridan shared some highlight findings from the report:
- 2016 was a boom year with many groves reporting their best ever harvest and others achieving a record oil yield, however only six regions showed an increase in average crop/tree;
- challenges included Anthracnose and processing capacity;
- there was significant variation in cropping levels within all regions – national average was 11.67Kg/tree while some regions achieved 30Kgs/tree or greater;
- average oil yields improved across most varieties, from the lowest of 10.03% for Pendolino to the highest of 16.53% for Picholene.
Growers are reminded that 2016 harvest data is still welcome: while it is too late to be included in the 2016 report, it will be included in your own grove database record and show useful comparisons on a regional and national basis. Completed reports can be emailed to: admin@olivesnz.org.nz.
