The Olive Wellness Institute team have returned to work for the new year with a very topical new blog, reflecting on the holiday season celebrations most of us have taken part in over recent weeks. Most occasions have no doubt included sharing food with family and friends – a key component of the Mediterranean diet for centuries.

Eating with others encourages social connection and can reduce stress, among other positive outcomes. In this new blog, the OWI team works through the literature to investigate the physical and psychological health benefits of eating socially.

In particular, they look in detail at the benefits of social eating on:

  • gut health,
  • cardiovascular health, and
  • mental health.

They conclude, not surprisingly, that the research clearly backs up the benefits of gathering friends and/or family and cracking a bottle of your favourite – EVOO, of course – is not just enjoyable but also good for our health.

It’s a great message to spread around, so access the blog on the Olive Wellness Institute’s website here and share with your customers and social networks.
