As a clear picture emerges of when and how the new industrial relations changes will impact business, Victorian Employers Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VECCI) is taking a series of briefings around regional Victoria to keep businesses on top of what the changes mean for them. Wine industry employers are advised to attend the meetings, being held at Bendigo, Geelong, Ballarat, Stawell, Wodonga and Traralgon to ensure they’re up to date with the new laws, that commence from 1 July.
“These laws have the potential to impact on every Australian business,” says VECCI Head of Workplace Relations, David Gregory.
“VECCI is running briefings across regional Victoria to inform businesses about the detail of these new laws and help them prepare for the 1 July commencement date.
“The briefings are free for VECCI members and only $48 for non-members, and will contain information about the removal of the exemption of small business from the unfair dismissal system — meaning those businesses are again exposed to the operation of the unfair dismissal laws, new right of entry laws, the implementation of the new so-called ‘modern awards’ and the 10 National Employment Standards.
“Given that the 10 National Employment Standards will apply to every Australian employee from January 1 2010 regardless of who they are and what type of employment arrangements they have, every business should now consider how and to what extent the laws will impact on their existing employment arrangements.
“The VECCI briefings will provide employers with a clear, independent snapshot of the laws and the aspects business needs to consider now,” says Gregory.
