Details of the 2016 Olives South Australia EVOO and table olives competitions have just been announced, with exciting changes heralding a new era for Australia’s first extra virgin olive oil awards. Reflecting changes in the industry and consumer attitudes over the past 20 years, the competition has a new name and new, innovative award classes. The 2016 Royal Adelaide Olive Awards sees, for the first time in any EVOO competition in Australia, a defined class of “EVOOs of Provenance” and another of regionally produced oils, based on defined boundaries as used by the wine industry. New flavoured oil classes also distinguish between oils imparted with flavour by the addition of fresh ingredients at the crusher, and those flavoured by other means.

Closing date for entries: EVOO – 12 August, Table Olives – 5 August, with winners announced late August and winning products featured at the Royal Adelaide Show, 2-11 September. Full details and entry forms available on the Olives SA website – http://www.olivessouthaustralia.org.au – from mid-June, or contact OSA president Michael Johnston on 0419 815 839 for more information.
