From all accounts, flowering is looking excellent across most of New Zealand’s olive-growing regions. While it’s great to see, Olives New Zealand has issued a word of caution to growers not to allow over-cropping. “While this would result in a bumper harvest in 2014, it may also then result in a minimal harvest in 2015, so it’s better to aim for moderation for the sake of more consistent cropping levels,” ONZ EO Gayle Sheridan said. For some growers this may mean getting back into the grove and re-pruning some trees.
