An innovative feature of the annual Australian National EVOO Competition is The Australian National Young Judges Competition, sponsored by the AOA. The brainchild of Olive Oil Packaging Services’ Kent Hallett, the competition gets school students in learning to evaluate EVOO: smelling, tasting and evaluating a set of oils on their aroma and flavours, then scoring them out of 20. The student teams then rank the oils and the scores are compared with those of a professional judge. This year’s overall winner, Georgia Maynard from Riverton and Districts High School in South Australia, amazed the organisers with a perfect score!

The competition currently involves only SA schools but Kent and the AOA hope to expand the event – and this great industry education opportunity – into other states and regions over coming years. Anyone interested in working with Kent to take the competition into schools in their area can contact him via email at: oops@aussiebroadband.com.au.
