Ongoing developments in the regulatory oversight of crop protection chemicals are made available via the periodical Ag Chemical Updates produced as part of the Hort Innovation-funded multi-industry project Regulatory support and co-ordination (pesticides) (MT20007).
The latest update, released earlier this month, is available here, where you can also access more information about the project and industry-specific agrichemical regulatory risk assessments released in September 2022.
Review of malathion
The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has published its proposed regulatory decision in relation to the authority’s review of malathion (also known as maldison), an insecticide used for the control of pests in a range of horticulture crops, broadacre crops and vegetables, and in domestic and veterinary situations. There are currently 20 products registered by the APVMA containing malathion.
There are a number of key key proposed changes to product labels that will affect the horticulture industry, including number of applications and methods permitted, buffer zones, re-entry periods and more.
