The Monash University Industry Experience Internship Program connects businesses with students from six Monash University faculties.

Through the program, a horticulture business can submit an EOI to be an industry host for a student undertaking either a Bachelor of Science, a Masters in Food Science or Masters of Environment and Sustainability, to do an unpaid work placement in Semester 1, 2024 (starting end of February).

Internships provide students with hands-on experience in their chosen field, allowing them to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to real-world situations.

What an internship can bring to your organisation:

An internship not only brings fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to an organisation, but also offers the potential to find and recruit new talent. By hosting interns, you have the opportunity to identify future employees; during their internship they can enhance your team’s productivity and accelerate your projects without the costs associated with hiring a full-time employee.

Hosting interns also provides leadership opportunities, allowing you and your team to develop your skills as mentors, while also contributing to the professional development of interns. It’s a win-win situation that fosters a culture of growth, learning, and talent acquisition within the workplace.

Practicalities

  • There are up to five intakes each year for Monash internships and monthly intakes for Professional Year graduates.
  • Placements range from 72-360 hours.
  • Monash Uni does all the legwork: they will identify, shortlist and interview suitable candidates; monitor and support both host and student during the internship; and insure the student while on placement.
