Tarnagulla Farm of Balingup has been named the Best Oil of the Show at the Perth Royal Extra Virgin Olive Oil 2013 competition, judged in August. Karridale Olive Farm took out the Best Boutique Oil of Show trophy for the second year running, while Preston Valley Grove also made it two consecutive wins with its Chilli pressed oil claiming the Best Flavoured Oil trophy and a silver medal. The 15 judges sniffed, swirled and tasted 152 entries for this year’s competition, a 21% increase on last year, including 22 were from interstate. WA growers did extremely well, claiming six of the 10 gold medals awarded.
There’s a great aside in this, with the North Primary School P & C winning a Silver medal for their community grown and produced EVOO. It’s a great story, which we’ll share in the December edition of Olivegrower & Processor.
