Hort Innovation’s Trade and Biosecurity team has been strengthened by the appointment of two new R&D Managers, further enhancing the organisation’s efforts to safeguard Australian horticulture.
The new R&D Managers are Dr Cara Jeffrey and Dr Patsavee Utaipanon.
Cara has had a varied professional background, encompassing a PhD in crop genetics and developmental aquaculture. She loves problem solving and interdisciplinary science and has a passion for sustainable food production.
Patsavee (Wee) studied Australian honey bee population genetics during her PhD and has since worked in the Australian honey bee breeding program. She has studied insect pollination on various crops and was involved in bee biosecurity work with NSW DPI in response to the varroa mite incursion.
About Hort R&D Managers
Specialist and expert advice guides the R&D work that Hort Innovation manages. Its research portfolios are grouped into two R&D teams: Production & Sustainability R&D, led by General Manager Dr Anthony Kachenko; and Trade & Biosecurity R&D, headed by General Manager Dr Mila Bristow. Each portfolio is overseen by a specialist R&D Manager who is an expert in their field. Some of the larger portfolios have more than one R&D Manager.
Hort’s R&D Managers welcome discussions about the biosecurity projects they manage and innovations that have the potential for positive impact. You can find their contact details here and if you can’t get straight through by phone, you can book a call at a time that suits you by using the email link.
