The Burnside Branch of the National Trust SA (NTSA) is inviting growers to participate in the second annual Olive Oil Day, being held from 12-5pm on Sunday, 6 November at historic Beaumont House. The event celebrates the establishment of the SA olive oil industry in the 1860s by Sir Samuel Davenport, who planted 16,000 olive trees around Beaumont House – some of which are still standing. Davenport widely promoted South Australian produce and won a prize for olive oil at the London Exhibition in 1851, establishing the first olive oil factory in SA on his return.

Growers are invited to display, offer tastings and sell their oils on the lawns of Beaumont House, now a National Trust property, in one of three ways:

  • sell your oil, with 10% of sales to be donated to the NTSA
  • provide bottles of your oil for NTSA to sell, at 20% commission
  • donate bottles of your oil to the NTSA to sell, providing valuable fundraising for them and promotion of your oil.
