The AOA has announced that, after careful consideration, it has now signed a memorandum of understanding to form the World Olive Oil Trade Group with the American Olive Oil Producers Association and ChileOliva. The AOA states that: “WOOTG is a coalition of new world olive oil producer entities whose purpose is to establish mutually agreed grade quality standards that facilitate international commerce among producers and traders of olive oil. WOOTG further seeks to bring together relevant scientists, industry experts, and government representatives to provide an educational and information sharing forum to further the development of quality olive oil production and consumption. Their vision is for a globally competitive and growing market for olive oil, free of fraudulent or mislabelled product, supplied by producers who farm in a manner that is socially responsible and sustainable.” The next meeting of WOOTG will be in July 2016 in New York as part of the Summer Fancy Food Fair.
