On Saturday, 4 March Longridge Olives will open their doors to growers wanting to learn more about the SHD growing system on a free study tour presented by the AOA, and supported by the SA Murray-Darling Basin and Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges NRM Boards. Details are:

  • departing from Adelaide by air-conditioned coach, the day will include visits to two SHD groves and one traditional grove in the Murraylands region
  • Dr Robert Spooner-Hart will talk about biosecurity issues, crop monitoring and pest/disease management in SHD orchards
  • Jim Rowntree will discuss why and how Longridge swapped from traditional planting to the SHD method and its effects on profitability;
  • the tour will also visit the Coonalpyn grove that has undergone significant restoration since 2014, where Rowntree will cover the importance of pruning, watering and fertilising for continuous production.

This event is an informal opportunity for growers to meet, chat and learn more about the SHD growing system from an Australia practitioner. The event is FREE for AOA members and just a few seats are still available, so register your attendance now at lisa@longridgeolives.com.au.
